Typically a traditional timber framed home is the type of building method that uses heavy squared off and precisely fitted and joined timbers that use joints that are attached by large wooden pegs. The timber frame post and beam construction method were popular in wooden buildings that were built from the 19th century and earlier. This type of construction comes from building homes out of logs and tree trunks without the use of more high-tech saws that cut timber from the wood that is started with. This construction method found farmers and artisans using draw knives, adzes, and axes. You will still see old barns across the country that have been around for over a hundred years, a testament to their strength and endurance.
