A Modern Log Cabin With Traditional Style

Here is a log cabin design that started with log home plans and cabin designs being drawn on a napkin. Those sketches turned into blueprints, and then into a beautiful log cabin that would fit right in with the other 100-year-old-plus wood cabins in the area. This log house design has all sorts of traditional details to make it feel like it’s been there for longer than it has which also makes it feel warm and inviting.

The cabin building became known as Josie’s Cabin who is the wife and mother of the family. The log cabin came to have a special place in the architect, Rob Sears’ heart since he and his wife Julie had grown close to the Mossburg family throughout the years. Rob had been building and designing log cabins a good majority of his life, but this one will always be very special to him.

The log home has 1,700 square feet of space with three bedrooms and three full bathrooms that are evenly distributed over all three levels. The double-height ceiling of the great room in the log cabin allows the top-floor master suite to be an enclosed loft. Inside the log cabin, is a sleeper sofa in the bedroom on the main floor enables the room to function as a quiet place to read a book when it’s not needed for guests.

The lower level in the log cabin is built into a hillside under the entire cabin building and serves as a private guest suite while providing extra space for storage. The family wanted a small footprint and also wanted to preserve the oldest trees on the property. Although, after the cabin was finished, they did have to cut down a couple of trees to open up the views. They can also hunt and fish close to their home, and they have a lot of privacy as well, but it’s still only a short drive to the closest town.

They went with a traditional log cabin style for the main part of the house, and then for the rest, the cabin took on more modern features to look as though it’s been added onto over time. For the interior and exterior of the main portion of the home, they used half-log siding instead of full logs. The log cabin was also constructed to be very energy efficient as well. One of the most impressive features of the log cabin is the double-sided stone fireplace in the screened in porch and the living room. The Mossburgs went with a classic country farmhouse style of decor inside the home which fits perfectly with the style of the log cabin. Since a lot of log cabins are quite dark inside because of the wood, they also made sure to add in a lot of white and cream colours in the cabin to lighten it up a bit. The bedroom is especially white which makes it feel nice and spacious. Wouldn’t this log cabin make the perfect retreat any time of year?
