On a clear night, you can view the big night sky. There is public access to the nearby lakes for paddle boarding or canoeing. The National Forest access is only a short walk away. It’s an easy drive to Whitefish Mountain Resort and there you will find excellent skiing and snowboarding. There is no public transportation near the cabin building, so you will need a reliable car.

The closest town is Columbia Falls, which is 8 miles away. While the roads in this area are properly maintained by the county, in the case of heavy snow, winter access on the roads may require a 4 wheel drive car. There is HBO and Direct TV as well as a blue-ray player and a good DVD collection. There is wireless internet available, but not it is not suitable for video streaming. The phone coverage in the cabin building is spotty inside the cabin building, but available from outside for all major carriers. You’ll want to remember to dress appropriately for the mountain.

The neighbors of the log cabin are private and they all have respect for the mountains and the surrounding wilderness. Up the North Fork, which is only a few miles away, you can experience exceptional hiking away from the tourist routes. Glacier National Park is beautiful and considered the Crown of the Continent. In the winter months, it is possible to access the Whitefish Mountain Resort using the National Forest roads with a snowmobile, but the trails are not always open. There are opportunities for all sorts of winter outdoor activities. The Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell is just 17 minutes away. From the cabin building, it is only 15 to 20 minutes to the west entrance of Glacier National Park. It is 8 to 10 minutes to the post office, dining and grocery shopping in Columbia Falls, just 30 to 35 minutes to Whitefish skiing and dining. A trip to Canada is also a possibility, being only 3 hours to Waterton Lakes National Park which is right across the border and 5 hours to Banff, Alberta.
