A Cute Little 592 Sq. Ft. Hummingbird Tiny House That’s Perfect For Retirement

Having a second home on your property is a great idea for many purposes. While some people build them for their ageing parents like this one that was built for a family’s mother in law, others build them as guesthouses for short term guests or to rent out as a vacation home. This tiny house is called the Hummingbird Cottage, and it’s 592 square feet in total created by Ralph Jones Home Plans. Janne Zaccagnino made up the floor plans for the home, and she actually got to see the finished house because she knows the owner. That’s pretty rare that she gets to see her finished work, so it was pretty special for her to be able to see it in person when it was done. A home like this could be a great retirement cottage, especially for those who have families with land they are able to build one on. Tiny houses built on foundations that are over 400 square feet are usually considered legal by officials, but it’s always best to check in your local area to understand the conditions. From the outside, this tiny house looks great, with fresh grey siding and two entrances, one door at the front and a set of French doors at the back. It’s nice to have to entrances to increase airflow and provide good circulation throughout the home. In the summer these doors can be left open to let the breeze come through in the evening and morning to let cool air inside.

On the front, there is a covered porch to get into the front door and then on the back; there is an area leveled out that will get a deck. You can see on the floor plans that the deck will be built off of the French doors, which will be a great spot for it off of the living room to extend the living space outdoors. Just put an outdoor sofa and chairs set out there, and they can enjoy it all summer long. The living room area is nice and bright thanks to the glass panels in the French doors. Plus there’s a strip of windows above the door for some more light. The kitchen area is also open to the living room with a countertop extension that could also act as bar seating for eating or working. The kitchen also features a built-in induction cooktop with a microwave and space for a full-size fridge. A dishwasher could also be installed somewhere too and maybe an oven built into the cabinets at some point too. The subway tile and the light fixtures add some style and class to the kitchen, and the front door adds some light with a glass pane in it and another window above it.

The bedroom is next to the kitchen yet again with great windows and lots of natural light. They also painted it a soft blue colour for a pop of colour in the space and added a fan to circulate the air. The bedroom is just large enough for a bed and bedside tables, and there is even a walk-in closet with built-in storage and even enough room for a dresser too. The bathroom features a sink vanity, toilet and a shower stall that’s glassed in. The shower stall looks pretty nice in a marble looking applique with black hardware for a classy look. This tiny house also features some storage space in the attic as well. Would you ever like to have a small house like this on your property? Or would you like to build one for yourself to have as a cabin?
